To get started I recommend downloading LaserGRBL since it is free. Note it only runs under Windows and offers basic engraving option from image files but it is enough to get started with. LightBurn is a commercial product (requires purchase, but has a 30-day trial period) that has many more features that can really get a lot of value from this engraver.
This engraver has a fixed focal length. A spacer is included to set the gap between the material and the laser. The laser mounts to a slide plate using a thumb screw to tighten it in place. It is very easy to use. I like this better than my old unit which had a focus knob that need to be adjusted by sight before each use.
I really like how small and compact the unit is. There are four plastic support blocks. I find these to be somewhat unstable. Since they are to be used with the roller (which I do not have) they should work fine since use of the roll reduce over motion of the engraver.
I am only scratching the surface with this engraver but so far, I find it to be high quality, easy to use and very versatile.

Assembly took her about a hour with only needing my input a few times.
She used Light Burn and imported a picture herself and after some playing around had a image ready to laser burn.
She was immediately hooked on it.
She has watched me use them but for her to do it all from start to finish was very satisfying for her. She is quite artsy and spent the rest of the night laser engraving all kinds of things.
From the minute she opened the box until she had a completed item was about 3 hours or so.
Bottom line is if you are brand new with no laser engraver experience don't let that scare you.
From my experiences with laser engravers I can say this one is built a little better then a similar model that I have.
I have come to really like the ATOMSTACK engravers and plan on buying a ATOMSTACK 10w upgraded laser next.

I’m a crafter and love making things whether it’s quilts or cards or decorations. Naturally a laser engraver has always interested me but it’s felt like out of my league both in price and the idea of a large machine taking up space. But I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and easy it was to have a small portable engraver that can do a ton of engraving projects with wood or leather or stainless and glass. Just a game changer for a crafter like myself! It has a nice small footprint and is quick and easy to put together or take apart. I can even bring it over to friends houses to do projects.
The engraver seems well built and I hope it lasts for the hundreds of projects ahead.
The construction of this AtomStack P7 Laser is very good quality. Much better compared to 3D printer that I am very familiar with. It has a beautiful finish and all the components all fit together nicely.
I know a lot of laser engraver units need air assist to help with laser cutting. I'm not so sure the design of this unit needs it. The laser cooling fan blows down to the laser outlet. This might be providing the needed air assist. Time will tell as I learn more about this unit. I am truly enjoying learning about it.
What I wish, a better manual that goes into more detail of our to make this unit work. Maybe a sample file or two. Directions on youtube would be nice.
All in all this is a great laser and well worth a full 5 stars!
I burned a logo into wood, cut some thin wood into shapes, burned a design into a leather coaster and a logo onto a granite puck. It all worked beautifully once I got the power, height, and number of passes right.
It was very easy to assemble although the instructions and illustrations were not always as clear as they could be. The software downloaded and installed easy enough but I could not get it to work without an error. I tried with a different computer and a different graphics file and it worked great. I had gotten both graphics files off the internet but when I went back and tried again on the first computer with the new graphics file, it worked fine. So, if you download a file and it does not seem to work correctly then it might be the file.
It is also very sensitive to things like a voltage drop. It was working fine and burning a logo when I plugged another device into the same plug and it stopped. I tried this a couple times and it happened each time. If I let it run by itself and did not add any additional load onto the circuit then it finished just fine.
So, a few quirks but take your time and get to understand the software and how it controls the laser and it consistently produces really nice results.
I use Lightburn with my other lasers, so I already have the drivers installed. I plugged the laser into the laptop, powered it up and was cutting in a few seconds.
But - one complaint. The marketing - they show this in an office setting next to your laptop. No, no and nope. You NEED to vent a laser. Cutting many materials gives off toxic smoke, particles, fumes, etc. Cutting wood - you're burning it. And burning wood makes a LOT of smoke. I've burned a 4x4 piece of wood with about 90% coverage. There was so much smoke it was impossible to breathe in my garage where the laser is. In the summer I have the door open and a fan blowing the smoke out. I also have a powered vent for the laser that pulls the smoke, etc., outside for the winter, rainy days and so on.
So keep that in mind - you'll need to put this where it can be vented. This is true of any laser. That's also why I purchased Lightburn - you can install it on two computers. I design on my desktop in the warm, comfortable office, then cut on the laser in the not nearly as comfortable garage, using an old laptop.
I also have a webcam pointed at the laser so I can watch it remotely, since I don't want to sit and watch it for however long it takes - typically 15 minutes to a couple of hours per project.
100% recommended for a compact, powerful laser that's great for makers and DIY'ers.
The other stand-out differentiator of this laser engraver is the size of the spot. At only .02mm it is incredibly smaller than most other similar-looking engravers that run around 8-10 times larger. The most important part of the more narrow beam is that the power is concentrated and it is able to cut deeper at the same power as other lasers that seem to have very similar specifications.
At only $340 this is a really great laser engraver if you are just starting out. It is powerful enough to do cutting but isn't such a huge thing you'll have to dedicate a large area of the house to it. It is also stylish enough that it can fit well into your home decor if you want to store it on a shelf in your office.
Overall very happy with the "40W Portable Laser Engraver P7 Laser Engraving Cutting Machine 5.5W Output 0.02mm² Laser Spot, Metal Direct Engraving, 10mm Wood, 8mm Acrylic Cutting, 200x200mm Open-Frame Working Space".
When I got the package I noticed the protective cover of the laser module was broken and a few pieces were free floating around the bag they were in. I was a little concerned about it not working but I decided to try it anyway and it did function properly. I will message Atomstack for a replacement one of these days or I might try to cut some plexiglass with the laser and see if it works (probably not a good idea).
Assembly was very straight forward, I had never assembled one of these before (I'm new to laser engraving) but it took me about 15 minutes to get it put together and ready to go.
I'm using the free LaserGRBL app on my Windows tablet and I'm very happy with it, it was easy to install and use. It figured out all the relevant settings for the P7 out of the box.
I tried a few pictures to get a feel for the power/speed settings and the first cut was at 100% and 3000 lines/min and it did burn through about 2 mm of my half inch plywood scrap board. I am sure that with the right settings it can cut through almost half an inch of material but be ready for a lot of smoke if planning on doing that.
Overall I am very happy with this and will be posting back as I discover more of its capabilities or flaws. So far the only annoying thing is the need for resetting the entire system if one of the limit switches are hit.
Anybody who has experience with a CNC machine or CAD software will have a much better experience, but even a beginner with motivation will be able to learn how to use this with a bit of trial and error.
Setting up the machine itself wasn't too difficult but I've built quite a few 3D printers which is a similar assembly process. Once setup I turned it on and connected it to my computer then downloaded the software and began the process of laying out the design I wanted to burn onto canvas. I adjusted the power and speed levels and was really impressed with how well it turned out.
I've been addicted to using this thing since that very first canvas finished, I've used it on about thirty more canvas pieces and just started using this for wood art and I'm engrossed with all this can do.
Overall, this is an amazing machine for any hobbyist, maker, or artist, the number of things you can create with this are limited only by your imagination. I highly recommend this, and I apologize for cutting this review short but I've got another project idea I want to start working on. 5/5 stars.
As this is the first laser engraver we have owned, I have nothing to compare it to as far as ease of use, speed, etc.. But so far no complaints.
What i like
- Setup is simple with only a few screws to finish assembling the unit. Using the included stands during assembly even meant no hassle algining the sides.
- with only 2x side supports and an i-beam that the laser rides on, this unit takes up less desk space than some similar effective area machines.
- Having never used an engraver before, I had my first test pieces cut within 60 min of opening the box. Much of that time was spent trying to figure out how to use the laserGRBL program.
- speed, strength and detail level (number of lines per mm) are super easy to control
- Within a few test pieces I had figured out how to find the basic stating settings, start engraving, and adjust the settings as needed to get nice looking results.
What I don't like
- I'm fairly mechanical, butI had trouble making sense of the written directions and pictures in the manual. As in... my instincts on how to assemble it were correct, but the oddly worded directions in the manual had me second-guessing myself. And the pictures often were oriented different than adjacent pics, and sparse on details to help determine exactly what was being shown.
The blue light is also helpful especially if you’re using this in the sun because it differentiates the sunlight from the actual engraving light. It is also fun in the dark! However, it doesn’t work super well on metal. I don’t know if that is just because the engraving power of the machine is not as strong as others or if it was not made for metal, but it has a pretty dull penetration. It works fine on wood and acrylic, no problems there. However, the advertisement photos show metal workings and I think that must be false.
Overall, this is a great engraver for those working with wood or acrylic! It is easy to set up, work with, and adjust– a one of a kind!
I like the compact size of this laser engraver. It is extremely portable, yet has a larger engraving area than the mini laser kits that I have tried. The height adjustment knob on the laser is a must-have feature, and the light shielding is quite good. The laser does a very good job at engraving all sorts of wood objects. It can also cut light wood like basswood and engrave on acrylic plastic. I’ve put together several of these laser engraver kits before, so I was able to get this one going in under 30 minutes. Overall, this is a great choice for portable, light duty home engraver.

I run several Engravers daily and I have never had any issue with any of them at all.
This laser engraver was easy enough to assemble taking about an hour.
There is a learning curve to laser engravers but they are very forgiving while you are learning and it is not rocket science.
You can create while you learn and things will just get better and better.
Engravers are plug and play but you have to have to be willing to learn how to use them.
Do not machine wattage fool you.
The wattage you care about is laser wattage which is 5 watts of 10 watts with these price range engravers.
If you have the luxury of choice pick a 10w over a 5w.
You can do twice as much in half the time basically which translates into less wear and tear on you're machine, giving it a longer life and off setting the cost.
This is a good engraver that you can not go wrong with.

Assembly took me a little over an hour. I'm a decently handy person, but no mechanical whiz, but the instructions were clear and everything was simple to organize.
From what I gather, the Z-height adjustment knob is a nice addition for an engraver.
I set the machine up using LaserGRBL on Windows 11 and really had no issues. My test burn (in basswood) was ready to go pretty quick, though there's obviously a lot for me to learn still.
